EconomicsThe industry is, along with the tourism, a decisive economic element to the harmonious development of the municipality of Santa Comba Dão. Three development poles were created due to the geographic characteristics of the municipality and also because of the existing rivers and brooks that had to be protected from several pollutants. The location of these development poles allows the creation of different sized unities with no negative consequences for the environment.
The Catraia poleLocation: on the left side of the IP3 (direction Viseu-Santa Comba Dão) between the Catraia’s crossway and the Pregoinho/Gestosa’s crossing point; Area: 60000 m2; 15 lots, each of them with 3000/5000 m2; Industry: civil construction and public works, animal food additives, iron hardware, footwear, carpentry, fibreglass and car components.
The Lameiras poleLocation: IP3, direction Santa Comba Dão-Coimbra; Area: 100000 m2; Industry: sanitary ware, security doors, public transports for merchandise and mineral milling.
The Guarita poleLocation: close to IC12 road, between Guarita and Cancela; Area: 55000 m2; Industry: wood activities.
The program LEADER, by ADICES, has also allowed an economic dynamics in different fields of action of the local economics. The centrality of the municipality, the natural gas supply, the road transport and railway infrastructures (IP3, IC12, IC6, EN2, EN234 – Beira Alta railway) and the railway stations of Santa Comba Dão and Mangualde connect Santa Comba Dão to Europe and the world by land, through the Vilar Formoso border and by sea, through the main harbours (Aveiro, Figueira da Foz, Leixões). The town council commitment and the above mentioned factors allow an ever more sustainable and with more quality growth of the commercial and industrial sectors of the municipality. |
